A C$3.00 billion after-tax NPV against a US$854 million market capitalisation is the fact that frames everything else here. Read one way, the market is assigning roughly forty cents on the dollar to a study that ranks in the top decile of the copper projects we track. Read the other way, and that discount is a verdict: investors doubt the study survives contact with permitting, construction and dilution. Both readings are live, and the gap is too wide to be dismissed as simple mispricing.

The return profile is genuinely strong on its own terms. A 39% after-tax IRR sits above 94% of the 36 copper projects we cover, and the NPV ranks above 93% of the 43 we track, comfortably clear of the roughly 15% hurdle developers typically need to attract project finance. Payback of 3.7 years is moderate rather than fast, ranking below 59% of peers, which matters: the capital does not come back quickly, so the build has to be financed and carried through a multi-year construction window before the cash flow arrives. On a 22-year mine life, that is a long exposure to execution risk before the returns are realised.

Two caveats temper the headline. This is a PEA, not a feasibility study: it is scoping-level, may lean on inferred resources, and its capital estimate carries a plus or minus 50% band, so the NPV is a directional figure rather than a bankable one. And the base case assumes copper prices roughly 25% below today's $6.61/lb spot, which leaves real upside if spot holds but also means the study is not relying on a stretched price deck. Newfoundland and Labrador is a mining-friendly Canadian jurisdiction, a quality signal rather than a risk. The deciding question is whether a small-cap can fund and permit a build of this scale without diluting the equity value the NPV gap implies.
