About Hecla Mining Company
Overview
Hecla Mining Company is the largest and oldest primary silver producer in the United States with a 132-year history of responsible mining. The company operates high-grade underground silver and gold mines in Idaho and Alaska, along with exploration and pre-development properties across North America. Hecla is committed to environmental stewardship and operating in its historic mining districts.
Operations
Hecla operates the Greens Creek mine in Alaska (one of the world's largest and lowest-cost primary silver mines), Lucky Friday mine in Idaho (one of the highest-grade silver mines globally), Casa Berardi gold mine in Quebec, and Keno Hill silver district in Yukon. The company produces approximately 14 million ounces of silver and 180,000 ounces of gold annually.
Strategy
The company's strategy emphasizes safe operations in its long-life, high-grade assets, exploration near existing mines to extend reserve life and discover new deposits, maintaining financial strength to navigate metal price cycles, and leveraging its deep technical expertise in underground mining. Hecla focuses on North American jurisdictions with supportive regulatory frameworks.
Key Projects
Major projects include the Rock Creek development project in Montana (pending final permits), continued exploration at Greens Creek targeting mine life extension beyond 2030, Lucky Friday shaft rehabilitation and expansion, and exploration across the company's extensive land package in the Silver Valley of Idaho and at other historic mining districts.
