Operations
Albemarle operates lithium production from multiple sources: the Greenbushes hard rock mine in Western Australia (49% joint venture with Tianqi Lithium), Silver Peak brine operation in Nevada, Salar de Atacama brine operations in Chile, and conversion facilities in the US, Chile, and China. The company produces lithium hydroxide, lithium carbonate, and specialty lithium compounds, with total production capacity exceeding 200,000 tonnes LCE.
Strategy
The company's strategy focuses on aggressively expanding lithium production capacity to meet surging EV demand with targets of 500,000+ tonnes LCE by 2027, investing in conversion capacity globally, leveraging diversified raw material sources (hard rock, brines, clay), maintaining technology leadership in extraction and processing, securing strategic customer relationships, and delivering superior returns through the lithium super-cycle.

Major projects include Kemerton lithium hydroxide plants 1 and 2 in Australia (expansions underway), Meishan lithium hydroxide plant in China (under construction), Qinzhou conversion facility in China, Silver Peak expansion in Nevada, potential development of Kings Mountain lithium mine in North Carolina (restarting historic operation), and lithium extraction from claystone deposits.
