C3 Metals Inc (TSX-V:CCCM, OTC:CUAUF) said on Monday that new geochronology results from its Khaleesi copper project in southern Peru show the mineralization formed about 35.8 million years ago, placing it within the same age range as several major copper deposits in the Andahuaylas-Yauri belt.

The exploration company said the age-dating program suggests the Khaleesi system developed during a key mineralizing period for porphyry and skarn deposits in the region, which typically formed between about 40 million and 30 million years ago.

Samples of molybdenite collected from quartz veinlets at the project returned ages of about 35.7 million and 35.9 million years, the company said, similar to the timing of mineralization at nearby operations including the Las Bambas mine and Antapaccay deposit.

C3 Metals said earlier intrusive rocks encountered during drilling were dated at roughly 40 million years old, indicating the intrusions likely predate the copper and molybdenum mineralization and may have served as pathways for mineralizing fluids.

“It might be seen as unusual to be excited to be announcing the age of a mineral system,” CEO Dan Symons said in a statement. “However, there is considerable evidence that the best porphyry and skarn systems along the Andahuaylas-Yauri belt in Peru are typically between 40 and 30 million years old.”

The geochronology results also suggest the project hosts a multi-phase hydrothermal system, with earlier skarn formation potentially overprinted by a later copper-gold mineralizing event, the company said.

C3 Metals said it collected five samples for zircon, garnet and molybdenite age dating to better understand the relationship between intrusive phases, skarn alteration and copper-molybdenum mineralization.

The Khaleesi project lies along the Andahuaylas-Yauri belt, a major copper-producing corridor in southern Peru.

Separately, the company said drilling is continuing at the project, with 12 holes completed for about 6,300 metres so far. Copper mineralization has been observed or reported in all holes across a roughly 1,000 metre by 500 metre footprint.

C3 Metals plans to drill an additional 15,000 metres in 25 to 30 holes by the end of 2026, with assays pending for six completed holes and two more currently being drilled.
